Arachnophobia
Last vacation I was stinged by an ugly “pez Araña” (greater weever, Trachinus drac), in Playa del Inglés.
Some years ago I was bitten by a medusa, so when I felt it, I was sure it was a different kind of pain (I’m a Master in Painology
).
It was somewhat strange, because a I was swimming some tens of meters into the sea and, as I started to feel the pain after putting my feet on the floor, I first suspected it was a broken bottle, a needle or something like that. Indeed, the wound was a tiny spot in one of my fingers, but it was fairly painful.
A Red Cross guy I asked later told me it had to be either a “pez araña” or a medusa, and he recommended me to put my foot into warm water. But I was feeling no pain then (it was almost one hour after being stinged)
Beware of “peces araña” when swimming in the Canary Islands!
